German electronics retailer Euronics has teamed up with satellite operators Eutelsat and its broadband internet partner getinternet to sell satellite broadband services in Germany.Euronics Deutschland federates 1,700 independent electrical retailers with 1,900 outlets across the country.The agreement will enable Euronics retailers to sell its Tooway satellite broadband service, which delivers 20Mbps downstream and 6Mbps upstream via satellite.Tooway is provided via Eutelsat’s dedicated Ka-band satellite, KA-SAT.Peter Koßmann, head of telecommunications at Euronics Deutschland, said: “We see many customers in rural areas or on the outskirts of cities and large towns penalised by insufficient broadband speeds. The innovative satellite service we are adding to our consumer electronics portfolio allows us to resolve this problem, bringing customers broadband wherever they are. Tooway can also be used to receive TV channels with the highest picture quality on smart TV and OLEDs simply with the addition of a small piece of hardware to the dish.”
OTT TV provider Ownzones has launched a subscription video-on-demand channel dedicated to westerns, available via Amazon’s platform or Ownzones’s OS and Android platforms.The launch of Best Westerns Evern follows Ownzones launch of vintage TV series channel Best TV Ever. The new service will provide access to about 400 titles for a monthly fee of US$1.99.The line-up of content includes movies and series such as The Cisco Kid, Bell the Kid Wanted, Red River Valley, The Over the Hill Gang, Rawhide and Bonanza.Ownzones said it plans to launch a full stable of niche vertical SVOD channels, of which Best Westerns Ever is the latest iteration.“In launching these niche channels, we are recognising and responding to vastly underserved audience segments by developing exciting, affordable consumer offerings that appeal to their viewing passions,” said Doug Lee, head of programming at Ownzones.“Best Western Ever is a robust channel offering sure to delight Western superfans, who will no longer have to pay high prices to gain access to the titles they love. We’re delivering the best of the genre in feature films and series with one-click convenience.”Ownzones offers a technology platform targeted at content owners looking to distribute OTT to the web, mobile apps and connected devices as will as its own direct-to-consumer streaming channels. The company also produces its own web lifestyle content aimed at millennials. In March it launched outside the US with Passport Romania, a service featuring local and international celebrity influencers on Liberty Global’s Horizon platform.
Video measurement and analytics firm, Conviva, has acquired Delmondo, a company that measures video across Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitch.New York-based Delmondo provides cross-platform social video analytics, is an official Facebook Media Solutions Partner, and has a client roster that includes Turner, Viacom, WWE, ABC News and Fox Sports.With the acquisition, Conviva will roll out ‘Social Insights,’ supplementing its real-time census-level streaming TV intelligence from apps and the web with audience intelligence from social media platforms.“Conviva has been terrific in illuminating operational and audience insight heuristics to empower publishers,” said Peter Scott, VP of emerging media at Turner.“Adding Delmondo will expand Conviva’s capabilities across social media giving us a complete fandom story.”Silicon Valley-based Conviva is a real-time measurement and intelligence platform for streaming TV. The company, which has offices around the world, claims to serve more than 200 brands globally, including HBO, Hulu, Sky, Sling TV and Turner.
