He said: “Craig is fantastic; he’s shown that this season. There were a lot of doubters about him and for him to come back and Stevie Woods has got him into great condition.“He’s come back pretty much from the dead to be our player of the year last season. It’s frightening. He can go for another few seasons now because he had a hard spell with injuries at Sunderland so he’s missed a few but he’s enjoying his football here and hopefully he stays here for a long time.“After all his performances this season and getting the Scotland number one jersey as well, he deserves everything he’s got. “He added: “The way he’s being playing has been fantastic and his distribution with his feet has taken it up a notch as well. Scott Brown hopes Craig Gordon will snub interest from Chelsea and remain at Celtic after describing his recovery from injury as “coming back from the dead.”The Celtic captain watched in admiration as the 34-year-old refused to succumb to serious knee problems suffered while at Sunderland.Gordon’s form for the Scottish champions and revival in a Scotland jersey has attracted the attention of Antonio Conte’s Premier League leaders, with Celtic rejecting an approach earlier this week.Chelsea are on the hunt for a new shot stopper with Asmir Begovic poised to depart Stamford Bridge but Brown hopes Gordon will choose to stay with the Glasgow giants. “Hopefully he would stay to try and get in the Champions League again, he had a wee taste of it this season and he enjoyed it and so did everyone else in that changing room.”Manager Brendan Rodgers has already reiterated his determination to keep hold of his number one.Asked about interest from Chelsea, he said: “If it is the case then of course we don’t want to sell him. His contract is up at the end of the season but there is an option for the club.“But it is not something we would consider, really. He is someone I want to lock down for during my time here. He is a good guy who is enjoying life.“I am not surprised. It is a demonstration of where this team is at, the qualities they have shown. It is a big testament to him and the team.”Rodgers added: “There is a lot of speculation around many of our players so it is a great credit that they are performing so well and at a level where the great clubs are interested .“Craig is very much a part of what I am doing here. He is 34 years old and can go on for a number of years yet and can be a real pillar of this team.”Antonio Conte revealed Begovic will start Chelsea’s FA Cup tie with Brentford this weekend.
