Deputy Mayor of Savanna-La-Mar, Councillor Danree Delancy, says funds have been identified by the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) for the establishment of a Transfer Station for Westmoreland. This is expected to improve efficiency in the management of garbage throughout the parish.“We at the Westmoreland Parish Council are very happy that this (transfer station) is now coming on stream. This will definitely help to improve the efficiency of garbage collection in Westmoreland,” the Deputy Mayor told JIS News, after chairing the Parish Council monthly meeting in Savanna-La-Mar, on June 12.Councillor Delancy said the transfer station in the parish would drastically reduce the cost of repairs to the vehicles which take garbage on the long journey to the Retirement Dump in Montego Bay.“The government will also be making massive savings on petrol cost as well as making the agency (NSWMA) far more responsive to the demanding needs of garbage collection within the parish,” the Deputy Mayor informed.Regional Operations Manager at the NSWMA/Western Parks and Markets (WMP) Waste Management Limited, Eifert Daley, told JIS News that as soon as the funds are released, work would commence on the transfer station.“I am calling on residents across the parish to practise better garbage collection and disposal management as most of what we see dumped for transfer to Retirement, could very well be used in their backyard gardens and compost heaps. Households/residents should separate their garbage and ensure that only bottles and tins and other related material are thrown in the containers,” Mr. Daley appealed.last_img read more

2020 Vinyl Sales Overtake CDs, Signaling New Trend In Physical Music

first_imgFor the first time since the 1980s, vinyl record sales have overtaken CDs in the U.S., growing by 3.6% from the first half of 2019 to the first half of 2020, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).Related: Guitar Sales Bounce Back To Record Highs Amidst COVID-19 PandemicAccording to the RIAA 2020 mid-year revenue statistics, COVID-19 had a massive impact on physical product sales, with a decline of 22.6% year-over-year from 2019 to 2020. While CDs saw a 47.6% decline in revenues through the first half of 2020, vinyl sales increased by 3.6%, making up 62% of all physical sales, or $232 million.Furthermore, even though COVID-19 seems to have had a bigger impact in Q2, compared to Q1, recent numbers from Billboard signal a rebound, as U.S. vinyl sales recorded the biggest seven-day stretch of the year in the week ending on September 3rd. As the announcement of a new Record Store Day schedule back in June moved the annual event to three separate dates in August, September, and October, vinyl sales on the first RSD pushed the analog platform even further into the spotlight. The first of three RSD’s saw 802,000 units sold, the most for any week outside of Christmas shopping season since the week ending in April 18th, 2019. Billie Eilish‘s Live at Third Man Records generated the most sales, 13,000 units, sold exclusively at indie and small-chain stores. David Bowie‘s ChangesNowBowie, Metallica‘s S&M2, and Gorillaz‘s D-Sides and G-Sides also fell in the top ten, with 9,000 copies sold for each. With two more RSDs set for 2020, this could very well end in a historic year for vinyl.Related: The Hives Announces New ‘Live At Third Man Records’ Album, Share “Hate To Say I Told You So” [Listen]As vinyl seems to be top dog in the physical realm, subscription and streaming services are clear winners in the digital realm, with 12% year-over-year increases in revenue. Conversely, digital downloads, such as single, album, and even ringtone downloads, fell a whopping 22.2%. Combined, these trends show a shift in the way Americans choose to consume music. When purchasing an album, consumers clearly choose physical over digital, and overwhelmingly prefer vinyl over CD. Subscription services like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, on the other hand, remain far ahead of both physical and digital sales, showing that Americans prefer the on-demand nature of streaming over the alternatives. While the music industry continues to deal with the devastation left by COVID-19, lets hope that the early trends shown in Q3 continue.last_img read more

It later grew to 27-15 at the end of the period after a triple by Anthony Dela Cruz. The Aces lead reached 17 points early in the second frame but the Kings was able to trim it to 44-35 on a triple by Kevin Ferrer. We did a good job in the half court, scrambling and taking away their shots.”Ferrer finished with a career-best 19 points, while Japeth Aguilar added 12 markers for the Kings, which slid down to fifth place in the standings with a 2-3 win-loss slate to tie with the Phoenix Fuel Masters./PN[/av_textblock][/av_one_full]last_img read more

High School Football Preview: Brecksville-Broadview Heights will have a “devil” of a time Friday as they prepare to face Brunswick

first_img Steve Pajk BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, OhioThe following article is brought to by The Learned Owl Bookstore in Hudson, Ohio. The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Bees (2-0) will look to go 3-0 this Friday night at 7pm at The Bee Hive against one of Northeast Ohio’s perennial high school football powers, in the The Brunswick Blue Devils (1-1). These two teams date back to their battles in the old Pioneer Conference, where Brunswick reigned supreme. Brecksville has since moved on to two different conferences since those days, first moving to The Southwestern Conference, and then, moving onto The Suburban League last year. Brunswick has been a member of The Greater Cleveland Conference since The Pioneer Conference disbanded after the 2006-2007 season. Brecksville renewed there rivalry with their Northwest Medina County foe last year, holding onto a 22-16 victory at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium.Brecksville enters the game 2-0 after defeating Garfield Heights 34-0 last Friday at The Bee Hive. The Bees were led by Senior Quarterback Luke Strnad’s 19 for 32 passing, for 192 yards and 2 touchdown passes. Senior Wideout Joey McGonegal was the leading receiver for Brecksville, as he had 5 catches for 75 yards, including a touchdown. Junior runningback Alec Buckley followed up an impressive opening night performance against Padua with 12 carries for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brecksville was lead defensively by Junior defensive back Michael Rose’s 4 tackles for loss (minus 15 yards), while assisting on a two other tackles. The Bees also got two nterceptions on the evening, one from Junior corner back Sam Wiglusz and another from Junior middle linebacker Michael Graham.Brunswick made a valiant effort to stage a second half rally last week but fell short on the road against an always tough Austintown-Fitch team. After trailing 21-6 at halftime, Brunswick scored on a blocked punt recovered by Senior defensive lineman Collin Sustercic in the end zone at the 7:06 mark of the third quarter. After allowing Fitch to kick a field goal to make it 24-13, the Blue Devils were able to  bring the score to within a touchdown at 27-20 with 6 minutes to go in the fourth quarter on a 2 yard touchdown run by Senior fullback Alex Gillespie. Brunswick would drive down to the Falcons 35 yard line with two minutes to go, ultimately turning the ball over on downs. This Friday The Bee Hive will pit two teams that run two different styles of offenses, with Brecksville running a spread offense, and Brunswick running a ball control, run-oriented offense. Brunswick will need to try and contain Brecksville Senior QB Luke Strnad and keep his wide receivers in check, led by Senior wide receiver Joey McGonegal. The Blue Devils will also need to keep an eye on Junior running back Alex Buckley as well, or he can make them pay for not paying attention to him, rushing for nearly 300 yards through the first two games of the season. The Bees will need to pay attention to Brunswick’s 6-1, 185 pound Senior runningback Jake Martin, who through the first two games of the season, has run for 324 yards on 43 carries, including 2 touchdowns, one of which went for 75 yards.Prediction: Brecksville 25, Brunswick 21 Related TopicsBrecksville-Broadview HeightsBrunswick Blue DevilsHigh School Footballlast_img read more
