Xiaomi eyes $4B cash injection to fund growth drive

Westry has played extensively this season, starting each of Kentucky’s first seven games, but Baity was playing a significant number of snaps on defense for the first time this season. The staff has gradually increased the defensive responsibilities of West and Edwards over the last month, but the Mississippi State loss represented the biggest role for both players this season.“They did well,” Ansley said. “They made some mistakes, but they flew around and played fast and made some plays, too. So we’re very pleased with how they went into a hostile environment and played against a really good team and held their own.”Stoops: ‘We’ll need to play a lot better’Edwards ranked second on the team with seven tackles and was credited with one pass breakup. West and Baity were each credited with four tackles. Baity also recorded one tackle for loss. Westry added three tackles and his second interception of the season.Even caught up in his first extended run on defense this season, Baity could not help but notice who was playing alongside him in the secondary.“I think I did notice that,” he said. “Just because we’re all so close. Being young, we’re always going to practice with each other. I think we just had that chemistry out there.”On Monday, UK head coach Mark Stoops made it clear he is ready to invest first-team reps in the freshman defensive backs instead of continuing to rely on older players who are not producing. West could miss “a couple of weeks” with an ankle injury suffered at Mississippi State, but Stoops listed Edwards and Baity with the first-team defense on the pre-Tennessee depth chart. The two freshmen were listed with an “or” alongside senior safety A.J. Stamps and senior cornerback Cody Quinn.“They are definitely counting on me,” Edwards said. “They’ve been counting on me. Just got to stay focused, push my reps. Not really worried about that. All I’m worried about is making plays and getting better, having the team get better.”UK’s Elam aims to build on uneven first startStoops left the door open for Stamps to make the improvement the staff is looking for, noting a missed tackle on one long Mississippi State gain as an example of something to be fixed, but he came away from the blowout loss impressed by Edwards’ play.“Mike’s playing some very good football,” Stoops said. “He’s very athletic, he covers. He’s got good instincts. He makes loose plays. He makes plays where he’s playing football. He’s got some instincts in making some plays.”At 6-foot-3, Baity would provide an imposing duo at corner when paired with the 6-foot-4 Westry. Few teams in the country could compete with that type of size in the secondary, but playing freshmen in the SEC brings about its own challenges.Baity missed part of summer conditioning to deal with a personal issue at home and found his early playing time mostly on special teams. Now the staff thinks he is ready to follow Westry’s lead on defense.“He’s been patient and been learning every week and progressing to where we can put him on the field now,” Ansley said.Sign up to get more like this free in your inbox Session ID: 2020-09-18:6ce6be673dbf8c58227b599b Player ID: videojs-brightcove-player-679432-4583054176001 OK Close Modal DialogCaption Settings DialogBeginning of dialog window. Error Code: VIDEO_CLOUD_ERR_VIDEO_NOT_FOUND Regardless of who starts in the secondary against Tennessee, the UK defense figures to need the veterans and freshmen to contribute in the final five games if it is to reach the first bowl game since 2010.Having that competition is a tangible representation of the improved talent on the roster.“Anytime you’re building a program you want to recruit really good players and then recruit better players than they are the next year,” Ansley said. “That keeps the competitive vibe in your program, and that’s what we’ve done. Any time you’ve got good players coming in the guys that are here got to compete.”That strategy would have the current freshmen facing their own challenges in the future, but for now the staff is excited about their own potential.“Those guys got a bright, bright future,” Ansley said. “All they got to do is continue to have birthdays and continue to eat and get bigger. Share on other sites Location:Portland, ME, USA 8,272 posts Blue and white look great.Black should be thrown into a dumpster.Agreed. Though I like the white helmets that they’ve been accustomed to the best, the blue is a nice addition. I especially love the grey facemask (hold the groans) on the White helmet. The blue should also sport the grey IMO as well. My only complaint (other than the horrible black one) is the stripe on the Blue helmet looks a bit too wide, but that’s probably just a contrast thing…In this case I think Nike should have ditched the black (although it is part of Duke’s color palette) and gone with a really dark grey (Anthracite) with a black decal. That would have looked a million times better than the gloss/flat combo. The stripe on the blue helmet is probably the same wide, Tennessee-style stripe that the white helmet has. I think that the black helmet is supposed to mimic the first matte black lacross helmet that was used in 2011 (except that black D had a blue outline). If they wear it with the black uniforms, it’s going to look terrible…Duke’s uniforms are two or three material generations behind…glossiest uniforms on the planet. 521 Legend Members 13,075 Share this post Link to post Location:City of Champions and the Pirates Favourite Logos:Toronto Blue Jays 2012 – Quebec NordiquesMinnesota North StarsHartford WhalersNew York MetsBoston Bruins (all except 1995-2007)New Detroit Lions 0 Blue and white look great.Black should be thrown into a dumpster.I approve of this message.
